GoodWe Inverters & Storage — installed by South Coast Solar Solutions

GoodWe offers high-performance inverters and storage across a very wide capacity range, with intelligent energy management and excellent value — a dependable workhorse for many home configurations.

Key features

  • High performance
  • Wide capacity range
  • Intelligent management
  • Excellent value

GoodWe is one of the most widely installed inverter and storage brands in the world, and here on the South Coast we fit it as a dependable, do-everything workhorse. The ES Series hybrid range spans a very wide capacity band — from around 5kW up to 30kW of inverter output, paired with storage from roughly 5kWh right up to 108kWh — which means one product family can cover a modest three-bedroom terrace in Portsmouth just as comfortably as a large detached home in the New Forest or on the Isle of Wight. Because it is a hybrid unit, GoodWe handles your solar generation, your battery charging and discharging, and your grid connection from a single box, keeping the install tidy and the system easy to live with.

What we like about GoodWe is the intelligent energy management. The system decides, in real time, when to send solar straight to your appliances, when to top up the battery, and when to export surplus to the grid — and it can be told to charge the battery from cheap overnight electricity so you are running the house on low-cost power through the expensive evening peak. It is all app-controlled, so you can see exactly what your panels are producing and where every kilowatt-hour is going. For most families that translates into a system that quietly does the sensible thing without you having to think about it.

As a family-run, MCS-certified installer, we care as much about how a battery system is fitted as which badge is on it. Every GoodWe install we do is designed around your actual roof, your usage pattern and your grid connection. Anything with battery storage or export needs a G99 application submitted to and approved by your DNO before we install — SSEN across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset and west Surrey, or UK Power Networks across Sussex and most of Surrey — and we file that paperwork for you as part of the job. Bird-protection mesh is included as standard on every panel install.

GoodWe sits in our line-up as the sensible-value option: strong performance and a genuinely broad capacity range without paying a premium for a name-brand battery. If you want the widest choice of system sizes, or you have an unusual configuration that off-the-shelf kits do not quite fit, GoodWe is very often the right answer. We will always tell you honestly on survey whether GoodWe or one of our other systems — Fox ESS, EcoFlow, Sigenergy or Tesla Powerwall — is the better match for your home and budget.

Pricing

GoodWe isn't tied to one of our fixed package prices — because the ES Series spans such a wide capacity range, we specify and price it per survey around your roof and usage. For reference, our packaged solar systems start from £4,995 (solar only) and solar-and-battery systems from £6,995, all "from" and subject to survey.

Best for

Homeowners who want the widest choice of system sizes and strong performance at sensible value — from a compact terrace to a large detached home — and anyone with an unusual roof or usage pattern that a fixed off-the-shelf kit doesn't quite fit.

How it compares

GoodWe competes with brands like Fox ESS, EcoFlow, Sigenergy and Tesla Powerwall. Its standout is range and value: the ES Series covers a much broader span of inverter and storage sizes than a single fixed kit, so it flexes to fit awkward configurations, and it does so without the premium of a headline-name battery like the Tesla Powerwall 3. It gives you the same essentials — hybrid operation, cheap-rate charging, full app control and smart energy management. What you don't get is the specific brand cachet or ecosystem of a Powerwall or the ultra-compact all-in-one styling of some rivals. Verdict: if you want a proven, flexible, well-priced workhorse that can be sized to almost any South Coast home, GoodWe is one of the smartest-value choices we fit; if you specifically want Tesla's brand and app ecosystem, look at our Premium (Powerwall 3) option instead.

GoodWe Inverters & Storage: FAQs

Do I need permission from my grid operator (DNO) for a GoodWe battery system?+

Yes. Anything with battery storage or export requires a G99 application that must be submitted to and approved by your DNO before we install — that's SSEN across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset and west Surrey, or UK Power Networks across Sussex and most of Surrey. We handle and file that paperwork for you as part of the job.

What sizes of GoodWe system can you install?+

The GoodWe ES Series is very wide-ranging — roughly 5kW to 30kW of inverter output and 5kWh to 108kWh of storage — so we can size a system for anything from a small terrace to a large detached home. On survey we'll recommend the right capacity for your roof and how much electricity you actually use.

Can GoodWe charge from cheap overnight electricity?+

Yes. GoodWe's intelligent energy management can be set to charge the battery from low-cost off-peak grid electricity, so you can run the house on cheaper stored power through the expensive evening peak, alongside charging from your own solar during the day.

Can I still get paid for exporting to the grid with GoodWe?+

Yes. With an MCS-certified install and a smart export meter you can sign up to a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff and get paid for surplus you send to the grid. Suppliers set their own rates — as of 2026 leading export tariffs pay roughly 15p–27p per kWh — and you can hold your SEG tariff with a different supplier than your import one.

How does GoodWe compare to a Tesla Powerwall?+

Both are hybrid solar-and-storage systems with smart, app-controlled energy management. GoodWe's advantage is its very wide size range and strong value; the Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh, in our Premium package from £12,920) offers the Tesla brand and ecosystem. We'll give you an honest recommendation on survey based on your home and budget.

Do you install GoodWe across the whole South Coast?+

Yes. We're a family-run, MCS-certified installer based in Portsmouth and we fit GoodWe systems across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey. Call us on 02392 983 020 or request a free quote.
