MyEnergi Zappi EV Charger — installed by South Coast Solar Solutions

The MyEnergi Zappi is a smart EV charger that can charge your car using surplus solar, cheap grid energy, or a blend — fully app-controlled with multiple charging modes. It is the natural pairing with a home solar system.

Key features

  • Solar-priority charging
  • Smart tariff integration
  • Multiple charging modes
  • App controlled

The MyEnergi Zappi is the smart EV charger we fit most often here on the South Coast, and there's a simple reason: it's built to work hand-in-glove with a home solar system. Its headline trick is solar-priority charging — in Eco and Eco+ modes the Zappi watches the surplus power your panels are sending to the grid and diverts it into your car instead, so on a bright Hampshire or Isle of Wight afternoon you can top up your EV on electricity you generated for free rather than exporting it for a few pence. Switch to Fast mode when you need a full charge quickly and it draws from the grid like any standard charger. It's all managed through the myenergi app, so you set a mode, check your charging and forget about it.

As a family-run, MCS-certified installer we look at the Zappi as one piece of a joined-up home-energy setup, not a bolt-on. Pair it with solar and you charge from your own roof; add a battery and cheap off-peak tariff and the Zappi can pull in low-cost overnight grid energy too, blending the two so your car is always filled from the cheapest source available at the time. Because it integrates with smart tariffs, it fits naturally alongside the Octopus and time-of-use plans a lot of our customers are already on. We're an Octopus Trusted Partner, so we can talk you through how the charger and your tariff work together honestly, without the pushy upsell.

Every Zappi we install is fitted by our own team and signed off properly — no subcontracted unknowns turning up at your door. We cover Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West and East Sussex and Surrey, and we'll survey your property first to plan the cable route, the mounting position and the electrical connection so the install is tidy and compliant. If you're having the Zappi at the same time as solar or a battery, we coordinate the whole job on one visit where practical, which keeps disruption down and means one team is accountable for the lot.

Plain English on what the Zappi is best at: getting genuine value out of the solar you've already paid for. A standard charger just draws grid power whenever you plug in; the Zappi's whole point is to use your surplus solar first. If you don't have panels the Zappi still works as a capable smart charger with tariff scheduling, but you unlock its real advantage once there's a solar array feeding it. That's the conversation we'll have with you up front — we'd rather tell you whether it's the right fit than sell you a mode you'll never use.

Pricing

The Zappi isn't part of one of our fixed solar packages — EV chargers are quoted per install after a free survey, since the price depends on your consumer unit, cable run and mounting position. Most customers add it to a solar system: our solar-only packages start from £4,995, and solar-plus-battery from £6,995, all 'from' prices subject to survey. We'll give you a clear, itemised Zappi figure as part of your quote — no single guaranteed number over the phone.

Best for

Homeowners on the South Coast who have (or are getting) solar panels and want to charge an EV from their own surplus generation instead of exporting it — especially those on a smart or time-of-use tariff who want charging automatically scheduled to the cheapest energy available.

How it compares

Against a basic 'dumb' EV charger, the Zappi costs more up front but earns it back by diverting free surplus solar into your car and scheduling grid charging to cheap off-peak hours — a standard charger simply pulls full-price grid power whenever you plug in. Against other smart chargers, the Zappi's edge is mature, well-proven solar-priority charging and tight tariff integration, which is exactly why we pair it with our solar and battery installs. The honest caveat: if you have no solar and no intention of adding it, much of the Zappi's advantage goes unused and a simpler smart charger may serve you just as well. Verdict: if you have solar or are installing it alongside, the Zappi is the natural, best-value choice; if you never plan to add panels, it's more charger than you strictly need.

MyEnergi Zappi EV Charger: FAQs

Can the Zappi charge my car from my solar panels?+

Yes — that's its main strength. In Eco and Eco+ modes the Zappi detects the surplus power your panels would otherwise export to the grid and diverts it into your car, so on a sunny day you can charge from electricity you generated yourself. In Fast mode it charges from the grid when you need a quick top-up.

Does the Zappi work with smart tariffs like Octopus?+

It does. The Zappi integrates with smart and time-of-use tariffs so it can schedule charging to your cheapest off-peak hours. We're an Octopus Trusted Partner, so we can explain honestly how the charger and your tariff work together for your setup.

Do I need solar panels to have a Zappi installed?+

No — the Zappi works as a capable smart charger on its own, with app control and tariff scheduling. But its standout feature, solar-priority charging, only comes into play once you have panels feeding it. We'll tell you up front whether it's the right fit for your home.

Can you install the Zappi at the same time as my solar or battery?+

Yes, and where it's practical we prefer to. Coordinating the EV charger with your solar or battery install on one visit keeps disruption down and means a single in-house team is accountable for the whole job. We cover Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, West and East Sussex and Surrey.

What are the different charging modes?+

The Zappi has three: Eco (blends solar and grid, always keeping a minimum charge rate), Eco+ (charges purely from surplus solar and pauses if there isn't enough), and Fast (charges at full speed from the grid regardless of solar). You choose the mode in the myenergi app to suit the moment.

How much does a Zappi installation cost?+

EV chargers are quoted per install after a free survey, because the cost depends on your consumer unit, cable run and where the charger is mounted. Most customers add it to a solar system — our solar packages start from £4,995 (subject to survey) — and we give you a clear, itemised Zappi figure as part of your quote.
