Tesla Powerwall 3

"Tesla Certified Installer" isn't a badge a company awards itself. It's an accreditation Tesla grants directly, and it's a scarce one — there are far fewer certified installers than there are companies happy to sell you a Powerwall. The important part for you is that it's independently checkable. Tesla runs its own installer locator: put your postcode in, and you'll see who Tesla actually recognises in your area. If a company claims certification but doesn't appear there, that's your answer. We'd encourage you to check us the same way before you speak to us.

What changes on the day is who's holding the tools. A certified install is carried out by people Tesla has trained on that specific hardware, and the unit is commissioned and registered through Tesla's own systems rather than left as an unrecorded box on your wall. That matters most when something needs looking at years down the line — the support path runs through Tesla properly, instead of everyone pointing at each other. We won't quote warranty lengths here, because Tesla publishes its own terms and those are the ones that count; read them, and ask us anything that isn't clear.

Every Powerwall we fit also needs a G99 application, and we file it. The rule is simple: G98 covers small systems up to 3.68kW per phase and works on a connect-and-notify basis, but anything larger — and anything with battery storage or export — is G99, which has to be applied for and approved by your network operator before the install happens. Locally that's SSEN for Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset and west Surrey, and UK Power Networks for East and West Sussex and most of Surrey. It's paperwork you never have to touch.

There are two honest price routes. If you've already got solar, a Powerwall 3 (13.5kWh) retrofit starts from £7,450, or £13,950 with expansion to 27kWh. If you're starting from scratch, our Premium package — solar plus the Powerwall 3 — runs from £12,920 for 12 panels to £13,560 for 16, and there's a £375 Tesla rebate available on it. These are genuine "from" prices, subject to survey, and bird protection mesh is included as standard. Your roof, your existing kit and your DNO all move the final figure, so we'd rather survey than guess.

The Powerwall 3 is the same unit whoever fits it — what varies between Tesla Powerwall installers is the quality of the installation, the paperwork, and what happens after they leave. Whether you're on the South Coast or the other end of the country, the same short checklist separates a proper installer from a subcontractor who happens to have a van. Ask every company quoting you the questions below, and pay attention to how directly they answer.

It's also worth knowing what a good installation day actually looks like, because a Powerwall 3 fit is typically a one-day job. Before that day, a competent installer will have already agreed the Backup Gateway location with you and walked you through the backup wiring — which circuits stay live in a power cut and which don't. If an installer can't explain Gateway siting and backup circuit choices in plain English at the survey stage, that's a warning sign, not a detail to sort out later.

Quotes for the same Powerwall can differ by thousands, and it's rarely the hardware. The honest drivers are: whether you already have solar (a battery-only retrofit is a smaller job than a full solar-plus-Powerwall system), the state of your consumer unit and whether it needs work, the length and difficulty of the cable runs between the Powerwall, Gateway and meter position, and whether you want the system designed to take expansion units later. A good quote itemises these rather than burying them in one number — and it should say whether scaffolding is included, because that's a common hidden extra.
