Real installed prices for PO19 and PO20 homes, what a Chichester roof generates, and how a group-buying offer compares with a local quote.
Most "solar panel cost" pages give you a national range wide enough to be useless. This one gives you our actual installed prices, what a Chichester roof produces, and the two local factors that change the sums here.
The prices, plainly
All of these are advertised "from" prices, subject to a free survey, and all include bird protection mesh: solar only from £4,995 for 8 panels, £5,495 for 10 and £5,895 for 14; solar with a Fox ESS 5.76kWh battery from £6,995; AIKO panels with EcoFlow or Sigenergy storage from £8,418; and solar with a 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 3 from £12,920. If you already have panels, a Powerwall 3 retrofit starts at £7,450. Residential solar carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
What a Chichester roof actually makes
This is where Chichester does well. PVGIS 5.3, the European Commission's model, puts a 4kW unshaded, south-facing array in the city at about 4,698 kWh a year — the highest figure of any town we have modelled, ahead of Portsmouth at 4,523 and Southampton at 4,255. East-facing it gives about 3,614 kWh, west-facing about 3,676. Expect roughly 579 kWh in June and 160 kWh in December.
What you earn on what you don't use
Chichester sits on SSEN's network — PO19 and PO20 are in the Southern region, not UK Power Networks — which decides your Octopus tariff region. On 25 September 2026 Flux paid 29.00p per kWh for exports between 4pm and 7pm, about 10.08p through the day and 4.74p between 2am and 5am, while Outgoing Octopus pays a flat 12p at any hour. Export rates like that are why a battery, rather than more panels, is usually the next best pound spent.
The group-buying question
Chichester District Council has run the Solar Together group-buying scheme with West Sussex County Council, and it is often the first result people see. The last registration round we can find closed on 26 May 2023, and an end-of-scheme report went to the council's Environment Panel in June 2024, so check the council's website before assuming a round is open. If one is, get its price — then put a local quote next to it on the same specification: panel model and count, inverter, battery make and usable capacity, who surveys the roof and when, who files the SSEN application, and who you ring in year six.
What moves your price
Four things, mostly: the number of panels your roof can take, whether you add storage, scaffolding and access, and whether your consumer unit needs work. Heritage adds a fifth in the city centre — conservation-area design and, on listed buildings, consent — which we cover in solar panels in Chichester's conservation areas.

Frequently asked questions
What is the average cost of solar panels in Chichester?+
Our installed prices start at £4,995 for an 8-panel solar-only system and £6,995 for solar with a 5.76kWh battery, subject to a free survey. A Tesla Powerwall 3 with new panels starts at £12,920. Residential solar carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.
Is solar worth it in Chichester?+
The generation side is as good as anywhere we work: PVGIS models about 4,698 kWh a year for a 4kW unshaded south-facing array, the highest of the towns we model. Whether it pays depends on how much of that you use yourself, which is why export rates and battery sizing matter more than panel count.
