Grants & export income
Be honest about grants: most Hampshire homeowners won't qualify for one, and the main ongoing earner is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). SEG has been Ofgem-mandated since January 2020 (it replaced the old Feed-in Tariff export payment) — larger suppliers must offer an export tariff, and as of mid-2026 rates pay roughly 10.5p–16.5p per kWh on the open market — Octopus Outgoing pays 12p, cut from 15p to 12p on 1 March 2026, and the headline 25p-plus rates you may see quoted are either closed to new customers or conditional on buying your system through that supplier, though each supplier sets and changes its own rate and you can hold your SEG tariff with a different supplier than your import one. Targeted schemes such as Solar Together group-buying, ECO4 and the Warm Homes local grants exist but are means-tested or property-specific, so they reach only a minority of households; we'll tell you plainly if you're likely to be eligible rather than promise savings that don't apply.

Every job starts with a survey, not a sales pitch. We look at your roof's orientation, pitch and any shading, then model your actual electricity usage against what the roof can produce. On the South Coast that means working from realistic local irradiance of roughly 1,050–1,150 kWh per kWp per year — a 4kW south-facing array in Hampshire typically generates around 3,900–4,600 kWh annually, with east/west roofs producing about 15–20% less. The survey is what turns a "from" price into a firm quote, and it's where we'll tell you honestly if solar doesn't stack up for your roof.
Next comes the grid paperwork, which in Hampshire means SSEN, the network operator covering the county. A small panel-only system at or under 3.68kW per phase goes through as a G98 connect-and-notify — we can install first and tell SSEN afterwards. Anything with a battery or meaningful export is a G99 application, which must be approved before installation. We file either one on your behalf; you never deal with SSEN directly. The G99 approval wait is usually the longest single step between survey and switch-on, which is why we submit it as soon as your design is fixed.
The install itself is typically one day. Scaffolding goes up, panels and bird mesh are fitted (mesh is included, not an extra), the inverter and any battery are wired in, and the system is commissioned and tested before we leave. Afterwards you receive your MCS certificate — the document that proves the installation was carried out by a certified installer to the required standard. You need it to register for a Smart Export Guarantee tariff, such as Octopus's Outgoing Fixed at 12p per kWh exported. We handle the handover pack so SEG sign-up is straightforward.
On coverage: we're based at the Victory Business Centre in Portsmouth, so the PO postcode corridor usually gets same-week surveys. Across the rest of Hampshire — Southampton and the SO postcodes, plus the GU and RG fringes in the north of the county — we run batched survey and install days, which keeps our travel efficient and your price down. Our service area is a hard boundary: Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Sussex and Surrey. We don't chase work beyond it.
